Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy for Menopausal Symptoms
There are numerous factors that can disrupt a balance in hormones, and depending on age, the balancing act can become more of a challenge. For more information about signs and symptoms of hormone imbalance check out the following link:
At Core Pharmacy, we utilize bio-identical hormone replacement therapy or bHRT and believe in hormone replacement therapy, not hormone substitution therapy.
What Is It?
Here is a quick look at the difference between synthetic and bio-identical HRT.
Synthetic | Bio-Identical |
---|---|
Refers to drugs whose origins are not primarily organic, but rather produced through a chemical process. These drugs require additional chemical structures be added to attempt to make the body believe it is receiving the desired hormone. Commercially available hormone replacements are from synthetic products including conjugated estrogens. These prodcucts have chemical structures that are not the same as what the body produces. | bHRT is derived from plant sources, usually from the yam, and is modified to become identical to the form of human hormones. Because they are exactly the same as what the human body manufactures, patients are able to achieve results without negative side effects. |
Treatment Options
There are multiple ways we compound bHRT here at Core Pharmacy
- Capsules
- Topical & Vaginal Creams
- Rapid Dissolve Tablets
We can also compound multiple ingredients into one dosage form, if your prescriber permits.
Getting Started
If you know you are suffering from menopausal symptoms and looking to start bHRT, we recommended you start by keeping a record of your symptoms and their severity as they arise. Next you should approach your physician about your interest in bHRT. If your physician is not familiar with bHRT, Core Pharmacy is happy to discuss therapy options with them. We can also refer you to a physician we currently work closely with as another option.
If you are unsure if bHRT is the right choice for you, you may benefit from a consultation with the pharmacist here at Core Pharmacy. Click here for more information about [consultations].
Note: bHRT is only available through a prescription from your prescriber.
